What is Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis?
Have you had blood work done and your doctor tells you that everything looks fine yet you still have unexplained symptoms?
Let’s look at why this may be…
When you get your blood test results, it tells you the individual blood marker (i.e. Glucose) with your test result and the lab reference ranges.
The lab ranges for a particular marker are developed by the laboratory based on all the people who came for a blood draw at a specific time.
The laboratory is assuming that this group of people used to develop these ranges are healthy, without any disease.
Many doctors will often assume you are healthy and without disease if your results fall with these “normal” ranges.
Let’s take a look at Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis
Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis looks at functional lab ranges which can help identify areas that are out of balance, and may be causing symptoms. They are typically smaller ranges which are found to be representative of a healthy population.
Additionally, in Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis we look at patterns of markers combined because looking at individual markers is often not enough. One example is the fasting glucose level. When it goes over 130, the physician may recommend medication to lower your blood sugar. His goal is to lower the test result number.
Does this ultimately fix the problem or is this just a band-aid ?
From a Functional Blood Chemistry perspective, we would look at a combination of functional markers in addition to glucose.
Why? Because one test result by itself often doesn’t tell us much.
Additionally, we would look to identify the root cause for the high blood glucose levels.
Functional Blood Chemistry looks at individual markers as well as groups or patterns of markers.
